Determining students’ interests in our schools is still an area that has yet to be studied. Especially the pandemic period has closed this well. At this moment, our teachers need to be informed about the types of students, the types of intelligence and which areas of interest the students are interested in.
The fact that teachers need to learn the characteristics of the students and the books in-depth and that the students need a suggestion mechanism about which book to read and which book is appropriate for them causes them to read the books randomly. In particular, they do not have information about using digital devices in lessons. These days, the books already read by adults are recommended for students to read rather than the ones appropriate for their characteristics. Students face their interest and curiosity by reading books from reading lists imposed on them instead of books appropriate to their level.
This situation prevents the student from creating love and desire towards reading. It makes them turn to more dangerous blank content books. The application that will be developed is aimed to offer the students the appropriate books based on their intelligence, type of interest and curiosity and their attitudes towards reading from books divided into three levels according to reading comprehension, verbal reasoning and vocabulary.
Aim of the project
The main objective of the BoDiFoMe Project is to propose books suitable for students’ interests, needs and intelligence types, and attitudes towards reading and reading levels. We will realise our project together with partner countries to expand this project to international audiences and increase the scope and applicability of the project in the countries we are in. Besides all these, the reading rates in selected countries are very low, and we will serve the priorities of the European Union by increasing this. The main aim of our project is to increase the reading rate in these countries and Europe. In addition, the fraudulent use of mobile applications and the Internet will be prevented. Students will learn to use technology correctly and have better quality education.
Impact
The main goal of the BoDiFoMe project is to suggest books suitable for students’ interests, needs and types of intelligence, attitudes towards reading and reading levels. It aims to bring the students together with the appropriate book. One of the aims of reading books is to improve students’ reading comprehension skills through reading books. Providing students with reading comprehension skills is also the 21st century. It is also included in the skills. The level of comprehension of the books they read in our country and Europe cannot be followed adequately. As students encounter questions at the level of knowledge and recall about the books they read, they tend to read superficial rather than deep reading. Considering all these situations, the project will develop a smart application that is suitable for children’s reading comprehension levels, enables them to meet with books on topics they are interested in, and monitors their reading status.
Results
With the project, students will gain reading habits by making them meet with books suitable for their characteristics. As a result of combining reading and the use of technology, which is common today, students will be provided with the knowledge about creating an agenda of reading, creating agendas related to reading in social media and creating appropriate environments for the correct use of electronic social media. Students’ reading comprehension skills will be increased. Reading profiles regarding the variables that affect the students’ reading and reading comprehension skills will be prepared. Countries will be enabled to market technology by producing smart software. With this project, digital literacy skills will be developed by using the right smart applications. Teachers will be provided to monitor and guide students’ reading status and levels. An example will be developed regarding mobile technologies and social media, which appear to be disadvantageous and can be used for educational purposes, and awareness will be provided for investors.
Outcomes
The results of gaining the reading habit of the students will be evaluated with the data of all partners with the result reading evaluation result measurement scale prepared by the partners. Another benefit will be combining reading with today’s widespread use of technology and fostering young people’s ability to create the appropriate environments for the correct use of electronic social media will be created, and its impact will be measured by surveys. Development of reading comprehension skills will be measured by the reading comprehension test scale created by NEU. – The scale made by the partners will measure the measurement of reading comprehension skills. – Local companies and international companies’ inventories and statistics will be used to enable countries to produce smart software and market technology. – Book validation inventories and student book determination questionnaires will be created to support teachers in recommending correct books for students.
